Why CASE MANAGEMENT is IMPORTANT!

Case managers are like quarterbacks. They are able to see all the players and set up the play to achieve the infamous touchdown.  In addiction they play a vital role in helping to create and execute a collaborative and integrative substance use treatment recovery plan.

A Case Manager looks at all the moving parts of a person’s life.

  • Biological Needs- things to achieve physical wellbeing
  • Psychological needs- things to achieve Mental or Psychological wellbeing
  • Sociological needs- always include people, places, things (community supports & interests, relationship, home & work)
  • Spiritual Needs- may include working on confidence, peace, connection, forgiveness, love, acceptance

Case managers are highly skilled and resourceful.   They are a wealth of information and can provide options and solutions to many problems. Experienced Case Managers look at a situation objectively and come up with a strategy that could help an individual move towards their goals.

The initial appointment is to meet with their clients to gather insight and information.  When a person is highly motivated for change, they are open to accepting the recommendations and collaborating together to come up with a strategy that accomplishes the short- or long-term goal.

These plans are often modified to reflect how the individual is adapting to recovery. Like football, there can be last minute changes to a play based on what’s happening on the field. A seasoned and experienced Case Manager can adapt and can offer alternatives to individuals when they face changes in their own lives.

In the first year of recovery, the recommendation would be to commit to 30-60minute meeting weekly and 1-5 @15minute daily check-ins. This resource provides support, accountability and helps mitigate or eliminate any unforeseen challenges in early recovery.

Under Case Management Drug and Alcohol services, there will be some obstacles along the way. Discussing the past may hurt even more now and could be the reason to take drugs and alcohol in the first place. This is a normal reaction in the case of substance abuse.

To achieve sobriety, a Drug and Alcohol Case Management Specialist will help in changing the addicted individual’s behaviour patterns. Their proper Drug and Alcohol Case Management plan will show mettle when the times get tough. Case managers become the guiding light of the depressed person. They show the right path. Also, they, too, may have undergone the blade, and with that experience, they can diffuse the tension during the recovery process.

No matter how big or small the issues, the case managers with their Case Management Drug Addiction and Case Management for Alcoholics program will help in getting people out of their struggles.
