Does a Loved One Need Help

Addiction to alcohol or other drugs can cause a complexity of problems and issues. The addiction takes hold of the brain and changes a person inside and out.  These behaviors lead to negative consequences in all aspects of your life or your loved one’s lives.

This perfect storm will be comprised of physiological/biological changes, psychological changes, sociological changes, and spiritual changes.  You will start to witness social, emotional, financial, legal, physical health, employment/school and family changes or challenges in one’s life when you or your loved one becomes addicted. .

Knowing the signs and symptoms of addiction can prompt earlier intervention and, ultimately, better outcomes.

Some of these Behavioral Signs and Symptoms are common:

  • Always uses substance to intoxication ( told they drink or use differently than others)
  • Uses substance at inappropriate times such as before driving, at work, or at school
  • Noticeably irresponsible ( late or absent for family events or work projects)
  • Increase in absence from work or school
  • Damages relationships (family, friends and work)
  • Poor performance at school or work
  • Steals or borrows money from work, home, or friends
  • Secretive, defensive behavior about activities and possessions
  • Unusual mood changes
  • Abrupt temper outbursts or bouts of crying
  • Changes in eating or sleeping habits
  • Changes in peer group or social group
  • Loss of interest in usual activities, pastimes, and hobbies
  • Aggressive or physical behavior
  • Money or valuables missing from home
  • Traveling to locations outside of normal range

Physical Signs and Symptoms

  • Extreme hyperactivity; excessive talkativeness
  • Unusual Isolation or bouts of disconnection
  • Overall change in demeanor
  • Rapid weight gain or loss
  • Slow or staggering walk
  • Inability to sleep or awake at unusual times
  • Unexplained bruises or marks
  • Glazed or red eyes
  • Pupils larger or smaller than usual, blank stare
  • Cold, sweaty palms or shaking hands
  • Puffy face, blushing or paleness
  • Runny nose, hacking cough
  • Needle marks on lower arm, leg or bottom of feet
  • Wearing inappropriate clothing for the weather ( long sleeves in summer)
  • Nausea, vomiting, or excessive sweating
  • Unusual nose bleeds
  • Unexplained breakout of acne/rash
  • Unusual odors
  • Low or no energy
  • Depressed or anxious
  • Deterioration of personal appearance or hygiene

The Habitude Addiction and Wellness Program have professional staff who are able to effectively assess and screen for addiction. A professional Bio Psycho Social Assessment is the best way to clinically assess the problem, establish the facts, and determine what type of treatment or recovery services offer the best opportunity for addressing the substance misuse/abuse.

Family Workshop

A comprehensive personalized Family Educational Workshop is mandatory for the  immediate support circle for any client enrolled in inpatient treatment. This workshop is very empowering and instrumental for helping individuals deal with the impact of the substance abuse.

This educational workshop is also available to families who have a loved enrolled in a medical detox or an outpatient program. The workshop can be customized and personalized based on the needs of the family.

Family Therapy

Family Therapy is pivotal in recovery. Research shows that the rate of relapse decreases as family members work to understand their role and responsibility in treatment. Our Family Therapy Team will work with your family in a collaborative approach to develop a treatment plan that works for everyone.


We welcome family member visitors, as well as individuals with a significant role in the client’s life. You are essential in our client’s recovery and visitation helps with the ongoing development of healthy relationships. Visitation is held on Sundays from 2 pm- 7pm for clients who are enrolled in the inpatient program.
There is no visitation allowed for Medical Detox patients.

Virtual Family Care

The Habitude Clinical Team is thrilled to offer a Comprehensive Collaborative Virtual Wellness Program that is easy to book online.  Over the years, many families have wanted to engage in groups, workshops, and individual counselling in the comfort of their homes, offices, hotels or cars.  This service provides a safe environment for guidance and support.
