What is Addiction?

What is Addiction?

This is one question that doesn’t get answered enough.  People guess or assume the answer; but don’t take the time to find out either. Unfortunately, the answer is necessary, as it will provide clarity for anyone concerned about a suspected problem.

So here is one comprehensive answer:

Chemical Dependency and Addiction:

Dependency usually becomes noticeable in a person who is abusing a substance(s) when they continue their pattern of drug and alcohol use in spite of incurring significant problems in their lives. Some signs of chemical and alcohol dependency include spending more time on drug/alcohol-seeking behaviour, withdrawing from society and activities, an increased tolerance to the substance, unsuccessful attempts to quit, withdrawal symptoms during abstinence or reduced intake, and continuing use in spite of negative consequences. Dependency negatively impacts a person’s Habits and Attitude

Chemical/Alcohol addiction can best be described as a compulsive continued use of a drug or substance and a complete inability to stop. Addiction negatively impacts a person’s Habits and Attitude

The term addict is commonly used  to identify a person who is/was controlled by a drug or substance. The “addicts” are sons’, daughters’, brothers’, sisters’, husbands’, wives’, fathers’, mothers’ business owners’, employees’, teachers’, nurses, mechanics, police officers………….These individuals have worth and deserve an opportunity to heal………..
